How to Get Through a Tough Breakup

Breakups are though, there’s no doubt about it. They’re painful in the moment, and sometimes it feels like it’ll be impossible to move on. But we all move on eventually, and often times it helps to have a few tips on how to get through the worst of it. Here are three tips that could help you get through a tough breakup.

Talk about it. During any time of distress, it’s never helpful to keep things bottled up. Try talking to someone about the breakup, be it a friend, family member, supportive co-worker, or a therapist if you already see one. Sometimes just talking about it will make all the difference in the world.

Take a break from social media. Odds are you’ve got plenty of pictures out there with your ex, not to mention a number of mutual friends. Everything will sort itself out in time, but when the wound is still fresh, it may be helpful to take a little break from all those extra reminders.

Spend time with your friends. Your friends are there for you through thick and thin, they’ve got your back just like you’ve got theirs, and they’ll definitely be there for you during a difficult breakup. You can talk to them if you need to, or just hang out if you need a distraction, and they’re usually happy to provide a shoulder to cry on.
